It’s amazing how the weekends go by so fast when you are busy running around to all the classic summer backyard BBQs, beach days, picnics, pool parties, street fairs, fire pits, happy hours, dinner dates and everything else that comes alive when the weather gets warm.

As much as we love it, this busy season goes by fast! We’d hate for you to miss the best of the season, so make sure to keep an eye out for and enjoy these treats to the fullest while summer is in full swing!

1.) Corn

From salsas and chowders to nuggets and on the cob, corn is a fan favorite at backyard barbecues, street fairs and parties. It is great for spring and summer alike all the way through Thanksgiving because of all the ways you can prepare and cook it. Its relatively easy to manage with both sweet and savory, easy to difficult dishes to choose from. We’re actually crazy about corn, and we prove that in this article.

2.) Fish Ceviche

Never had ceviche before? We were skeptical at first too. Don’t know what ceviche is? Neither did we. Here’s the low-down.

Ceviche is a dish of semi-firm white-fleshed ocean fish marinated in citrus juice. It is light, bright, refreshing and perfect for summer since it is cooked without heat. When we say “semi-firm white-fleshed ocean fish” that means sea bass, striped bass, grouper, sole or flounder. Ceviche is made using the freshest fish available and cooked using a marinade of citrus juice for 20-40 minutes. The ratio of marinade to fish to cook properly? ½ Cup lime juice to 1 Lb. of fish. Once the fish is cooked in your marinade, combine it with diced peppers, tomato, cucumber, onion & cilantro and enjoy immediately! Try ceviche at your next BBQ if you want to hear some “Wow”s!

3.) Watermelon

This family-friendly fruit is candy to both the eyes and tastebuds! Expressed clearly in its name, watermelon is mainly water with a gentle sweetness that is great in salads, lemonade, sorbet, popsicles, fruit leather, “pizza” or on its own. A recent trend has even brought this summer fruit onto the grill! Brush both sides with olive oil and grill until marks appear. One writer has compared grilled watermelon to “seared, raw tuna” with a flavor that “isn’t sweet, although not meaty either”. If you try it, let us know what you thought with the hashtag #BestMarket.

4.) Hot Dog

If there is something a large chunk of Americans can agree on, it is that the right hot dog brings on a unique satisfaction and nostalgia whenever they are enjoyed. We all have our own favorite brand, toppings, condiments and ways to prepare. If you’re like me, a grilled dog is the best way to go. But for those like my brother, even the microwave (?!) can suffice. They are so simple to prepare and deck out with your favorite combination of foods, including but not limited to mustard, ketchup, onions, cheese, jalapeño & more.

5.) Ice Cream Cone

Odds are you will be in a backyard somewhere and hear this at some point this summer…

… after which you will scrounge up 3-4 dollars to run out and catch the infamous ice cream man!

Few things are as iconic of a summer day than than the classic ice cream cone! Vanilla, chocolate, strawberry, mint, caramel, cookie dough and more, we all have a favorite and we all have our own preferred ice cream delivery method. Some like it out of the carton. Some like it in a bowl, a sweet sandwich, a milkshake, or on top of a warm piece of pie or brownie! But don’t let the summer pass you by without at least one classic cone.

6.) Ribs

Best. Ribs. Evah! #omnomnom #ribs #mendontcooktheygrill

What really takes a summer event from awesome to spectacular are ribs done right! They are the perfect complement to all summer sides, from corn on the cob to coleslaw. Ribs are sweet. Ribs are salty. Ribs are aggressively good in all the ways an American barbecue should be.

If you are new to the ways of preparing and mastering the art of the rib, here are a few tips.

  1. Marinate
  2. Grill
  3. Serve

Do not be intimidated by the hype! Great ribs are marinated in the fridge a minimum of 3 hours before grilling. Once that time is up and your grill is hot, you cook em’ until they are well browned, about 2 minutes per side (remember, we said HOT grill!). Serve them stacked on a platter and listen to your crowd rave and revel in your awesomeness.

In the mood for ribs all of a sudden? We never stop serving up the best in our Wood Smoked Bar-B-Que.

7.) Caprese

Tomatoes are best when they are in season. They are even better when they are layered together with thick cut mozzarella and basil with a drizzle of balsamic. This Italian specialty is simply a beautiful dish to have at any event, regardless of the season. The reason they stand out as a staple summer food is the abundance of fresh tomatoes available to us, both in store or if you’ve grown your own in the backyard. You can lay them out on a dish for a visual and appetizing appeal or use cherry tomatoes and mozzarella balls to prepare them salad style for easy eating with a mini-fork or toothpick.

Pick up a caprese platter crafted by the best with our own hand-pulled mozzarella.
