COVID 19 UPDATE

A Message From Our CEO:

To our valued Best Market customers:

We know the evolving coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic is on everyone’s mind here on Long Island and across the New York metro area. It is on our minds too here at Best Market.

During this public health emergency, we are taking aggressive steps to protect your health and the health of our team. Nothing is more important to us.

When this crisis first started, we joined a global COVID-19 task force organized by Lidl which put us on the cutting edge of understanding how this disease is evolving both locally and globally. Through the task force, we have been working closely with local, state and federal health agencies on an ongoing basis, including the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), to ensure we are using the best practices across our operation. Our team is committed to following, or exceeding, all recommendations from CDC and other local health authorities.

We have already implemented enhanced preventive measures to keep all our stores and facilities clean and healthy for you and our team. I wanted to outline eight of them, many of which you are already seeing in our stores today:

Measure 1: Enhanced Protective Barriers and Measures

•Our team installed protective barriers at all checkout lanes to protect you and our team members during the checkout process. We also installed signage encouraging contactless payment methods to limit exchange contact during checkout. Best Market has suspended our practice of bagging reusable bags.

Measure 2: Social Distancing Signage

•New signage has been installed across our stores stressing the importance of social distancing, including indicators on the floors signaling how customers can maintain healthy distance. We have also put crowd control measures in place at our stores in an effort to limit the number of people in store at a given time. We welcome seniors to shop in the first hour of the day when it is quieter.

Measure 3: Enhanced Cleaning

•Best Market has enhanced our in-store cleaning regimen and is using EPA-designated cleaning agents approved for use against COVID-19. Our enhanced cleaning regimen is focused on the most high-traffic, high touch areas of the store.

Measure 4: Adjusted Store Hours

•We have changed our store hours to give team members extra time to work carefully to restock shelves, clean the stores, and unwind during these busy times.

Measure 5:  Modified Employee Attendance Policy

•We have encouraged all employees to stay home if they are sick. We also have modified our standard attendance policy to accommodate for unexpected periods of absence without penalty.

•If employees do not feel comfortable coming to work during this period, our attendance policy will not penalize them.

Measure 6:  Protection for At-Risk Employees

•Any store employee over the age of 65, or with documented health conditions putting them at higher risk of complications related to COVID-19, is encouraged to stay home during this public health emergency. They will continue to be paid while they are out.

Measure 7: Mask & Gloves For Our Team

•We have modified our uniform policy to allow team members to wear gloves and masks during their shifts. Best Market is distributing these protective items to all store personnel.

Measure 8: Temperature Checks

•Best Market will begin taking the temperatures of all store employees prior to the start of each shift to ensure the safest possible store environments for you and our team. Any employee with a fever of 100.4 degrees or higher will be sent home, with pay. Employees must be evaluated prior to returning to work, and must be fever free without medication for at least 72 hours.

In addition to these measures,

We are also working diligently to prepare for and take immediate action in the event there are any confirmed COVID-19 case in our stores. I want to make three things very clear on how this process unfolds:

1. If we learn of any Best Market employee who is sick or who does not feel comfortable coming to work, we encourage them to stay home. We have relaxed our attendance policy to accommodate periods of unexpected absence without penalty.

2. If we learn of a confirmed case of COVID-19 in one of our stores, we will place that team member paid administrative leave for a 14 day period. In that event, we will also inform all associates who may have had close contact with that confirmed case and immediately put them on paid administrative leave for 14 days as well out of an abundance of caution.

3. As a matter of policy, we will thoroughly cleanse any facility impacted by confirmed employee case.
