Hops and Props Event & NYIBC Competition at 3 West Club!
Steve our Resident Beer Expert had the opportunity to sample some really good craft beers at the hops and Props event last week. The experience of being able to see the history of Long Island’s part in the growth of aviation while talking about craft beer with industry leaders was a real treat. There was a good mix of local breweries and some as far away as Lebanon represented. I really enjoyed tasting Allagash Curieux, a bourbon barrel aged tripel!
Sunday was my second year being a judge at the New York International Beer Competition. This is an event where the retailers judge craft beers on many factors, including their value based on selling price. The judging is blind; we do not know the names of the beer. Our panel issued only 3 gold medals out of 63 submissions. At the end we were treated to a 3 year vertical of Sam Adams Utopias!
