From the time of its inception in Buffalo, New York around 1964, chicken wings and the sauces they come with have exploded in popularity. You would be hard pressed to find any American restaurant, bar or grill that doesn’t have classic buffalo wings! Beyond eating out, you’ll find wings at all types of parties – from sporting events and birthdays to holidays and backyard barbecues. It’s hard to call it a party at all without wings!

We’ve searched far and wide for the best ways to dress up this quintessential party food, and these are our top picks!

1.) Sriracha


What You Need:
2 Lbs chicken wings
1/2 cup Sriracha
1/4 cup honey
1/4 cup butter
1 tbsp. soy sauce
3 garlic cloves, minced.
Salt and pepper
10 basil leaves, chiffonade

Make It Happen:
Cook wings as desired. (Oven, grill, frier.)
Melt butter over medium heat. Stir in garlic, cook 1 minute. Add sriracha, honey & soy sauce. Simmer 5 minutes. Toss wings in sauce. Serve with basil.

 

2.) Jalapeño

What You Need:
2 Lbs chicken wings
Salt and freshly ground pepper
1/2 cup green jalapeño hot sauce
2 tablespoons coarsely chopped pickled jalapeños
1 stick unsalted butter
2 large garlic cloves, minced

Make It Happen:
Cook wings as desired. (Oven, grill, frier.)
In mini food processor, puree hot sauce & jalapeños until smooth. In separate saucepan, cook butter with garlic over medium heat 1 minute. Add the puree to the saucepan and bring to a simmer. Toss wings in sauce.

What You Need:
2 Lbs chicken wings

For the Sauce:
1/2 cup ketchup
6 tablespoons pure maple syrup
2 tablespoon unsulfured molasses
2 tablespoon cider vinegar
4 teaspoons minced chipotle chilies (from a can of chipotles in adobo)
4 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce
1 teaspoon dry mustard
1 teaspoon onion powder
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder

For the Spice Rub:
1 teaspoon sweet Hungarian paprika
1 ½ teaspoons packed dark brown sugar
½ teaspoon garlic powder
½ teaspoon onion powder
1/8 teaspoon chipotle powder
1/8 teaspoon kosher salt
1/8 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
1 lb chicken wings (About 10 mixed pieces)
2 teaspoons olive oil

Make It Happen:
Mix all spice rub ingredients in small bowl.
Toss wings in 2 teaspoons of olive oil, then sprinkle with 1 tablespoon (or more!) of spice mixture. Let rest 15 minutes.
Bake wings on wire rack over a sheet pan in oven 20 minutes at 350º F, then flip and bake additional 20 minutes.
Prepare sauce while chicken is baking. In small saucepan, whisk together all sauce ingredients. Bring to a boil over medium heat, then reduce heat to low and let simmer 15 minutes. Set it aside.
Flip wings once more and broil 3-5 minutes until outside browns.
Use large bowl to toss wings in sauce. Let cool to a safe temperature then serve.

What You Need:
2 Lbs. chicken wings
1½ Tablespoon onion powder
1½ Tablespoon garlic powder
1-tablespoon ground gingerspice
2 tablespoons dried green onion flakes (optional)
1 Tablespoon dried thyme
1 teaspoon freshly ground white pepper
½ tablespoon cinnamon spice
1 tablespoon ground all spice
1 Tablespoon smoked paprika
½ Tablespoon ground nutmeg spice
2 -3 Tablespoons brown sugar
½ – 1 Tablespoon vegetable, chicken, Maggie powder
1 Tablespoon or more Hot pepper (Chili, cayenne pepper, pepper flakes)

What You Need:
1 night to spare
2 Lbs. chicken wings
2 tablespoon cayenne
4 tablespoons paprika
4 tablespoons garlic powder
2 tablespoon dried oregano
2 tablespoon dried thyme
2 tablespoon onion powder
2 tablespoon salt
1 teaspoon white pepper
1 teaspoon fresh ground black pepper
1/2 cup vegetable oil

Make It Happen:
Mix dry ingredients together food processor or blender. Once blended, slowly pour in oil until thick paste forms.
Toss chicken in paste until well coated.
Cover and refrigerate overnight.
Cook wings on grill or in oven.

 

6.) Brown Sugar BBQ

What You Need:
2 Lbs. chicken wings
1 cup ketchup, try our homemade ketchup recipe
1/2 cup lightly packed brown sugar
1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar
1 tablespoon Sriracha chili sauce
1 teaspoon light soy sauce
1/2 teaspoon ground cumin
3 pounds chicken wings, wing and drumstick separated

Make It Happen:
In medium bowl use a whisk to mix ketchup, brown sugar, vinegar, sriracha, cumin and soy sauce. Taste and adjust as desired. Set aside ½ cup of sauce to toss chicken in, save rest for dipping afterward.
Toss chicken wings in the ½ cup sauce.
Bake wings on wire rack over a sheet pan in oven 20 minutes at 350º F, then flip and bake additional 20 minutes. You can then broil 3-5 minutes until skin is crispy and wings are cooked through.

What You Need:
2 Lbs. chicken wings
2 (6-ounce) can frozen orange juice
6 tablespoons hoisin sauce
4 teaspoons honey
2 tablespoon soy sauce
2 teaspoon rice wine vinegar
1 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes

Make It Happen:
While chicken is cooking as desired (baked, grilled, fried), stir together orange juice, hoisin sauce, honey, soy sauce, rice wine vinegar and red pepper flakes in a small saucepan. Bring to a simmer over medium-high heat. Reduce until mix comes to about a cup – 5-10 minutes. Remove from heat and let cool 5 minutes before tossing cooked wings in glaze.

What You Need:
2 Lbs. chicken wings
1 cup low-sodium soy sauce
1 cup grapefruit juice
1/4 cup hoisin sauce
1/4 cup ketchup
3 tablespoons rice wine vinegar
1/4 cup brown sugar
1 fresh, hot red chile, halved
5 garlic cloves, halved
2-inch piece fresh ginger, crushed

Make It Happen:
Cook wings as desired. While chicken is cooking as desired (baked, grilled, fried), combine all sauce ingredients in a large saucepan. Simmer over low heat and reduce until thickened. What You Need:
At Least 4 Hours, At Most 1 Night
2 Lbs. chicken wings
1 cup apricot preserves
2 tablespoons cider vinegar
2 teaspoons hot pepper sauce
1 teaspoon chili powder
1 garlic clove, minced

Make It Happen:
Combine all ingredients except wings. Pour ½ cup into a large resealable bag, then add chicken. Seal the bag and ensure chicken is coated. Refrigerate 4 hours – overnight, covering and refrigerating remaining marinade.
Remove wings from marinade. Place on wire rack over a sheet pan, then bake in oven 20 minutes at 400º F, then flip and bake additional 20 minutes. Once cooked through, toss in remaining marinade then enjoy.

What You Need:
2 Lbs. chicken wings
4 tablespoons vegetable oil
4 tablespoons all-purpose flour
2 tablespoon curry powder
1 teaspoon ground ginger
1 teaspoon onion powder
1 teaspoon garlic powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
2 tablespoon sugar
2 tablespoon butter
1 cup chicken broth
1 cup milk
2 teaspoon lemon juice
2 chopped green onion, green part only

Make It Happen:
Cook wings as desired. (Oven, grill, frier.)
Prepare sauce while wings are cooking. In medium bowl, whisk together flour, curry powder, ginger, onion powder, garlic powder, salt and sugar.
In a large saucepan, melt butter. Add flour mixture, stirring to form a roux. Whisk in chicken broth and milk, smoothing out the sauce. Bring to a boil, whisking until sauce thickens, about 5 minutes. Keep warm, then toss wings in sauce when finished.

 

11.) Miso

What You Need:
2 Lbs. chicken wings
4 tablespoons red or white miso paste
4 tablespoon teriyaki sauce
4 tablespoon rice wine vinegar
1 tablespoon Korean gochujang or Sriracha
Green onions, sliced (optional)

Make It Happen:
Bake 20-22 minutes at 425º F.
Prepare sauce while wings are cooking. In medium bowl, whisk together miso paste, teriyaki sauce, rice wine vinegar and Korean spicy sauce.
Remove wings from oven and brush with the sauce. Return to the oven and roast an additional 8 minutes.

 

12.) Thai

What You Need:
2 Lbs. chicken wings
1/4 cup Soy Sauce
4 tablespoons Gochujang , Korean chili paste (Or substitute with Sriracha)
1 tablespoon Red Chili Flakes
1 tablespoon Rice Vinegar
3 tablespoons Honey
1 tablespoon Ginger minced
1 tablespoon Garlic minced
Oil for brushing
Sesame seeds for topping

Make It Happen:
Use a whisk to combine all ingredients (except chicken) in medium bowl. Pour hald of sauce into small saucepan and reserve for later.
Season chicken wings as desired before tossing in ½ of the sauce until coated. Place on wire rack over sheet pan then bake 10-15 minutes at 400º F.
While wings are cooking, bring remaining glaze to simmer on low-medium heat. Let bubble until it thickens.
Flip chicken wings over then continue baking 10 more minutes. Once finished, baste wings with half of the ready-made glaze before broiling 5 more minutes. Remove from oven and baste once more with remaining sauce. Garnish with cilantro, green onion, chili flakes before serving.

 

13.) Korean Gochujang

What You Need:
1 night to spare
2 Lbs. chicken wings
1/4 cup Soy Sauce
4 tablespoons Gochujang , Korean chili paste (Or substitute with Sriracha)
1 tablespoon Red Chili Flakes
1 tablespoon Rice Vinegar
3 tablespoons Honey
1 tablespoon Ginger minced
1 tablespoon Garlic minced
Oil for brushing
Sesame seeds for topping

Make It Happen:
Mix all ingredients in large bowl, adding wings last. Be sure mix coats wings evenly. Marinade at least 2 hours, ideally overnight.
When ready to cook, bake wings on wire rack over a sheet pan in oven 20 minutes at 350º F, then flip and bake additional 20 minutes. You can then broil 3-5 minutes. Top with some sesame seeds and serve immediately.

 

14.) Herb Crusted

What You Need:
2 Lbs. chicken wings
4 garlic cloves, finely chopped
1/4 cup chopped fresh oregano
1/4 cup chopped fresh rosemary
1/4 cup olive oil
Kosher salt, freshly ground pepper

Make It Happen:
Combine garlic, oregano, rosemary, and oil in a large resealable plastic bag; season with salt and pepper. Add chicken wings, seal bag, and turn to coat. Chill at least 1 hour or overnight.
Cook as desired on grill or in oven.

 

15.) Spicy Honey Mustard

What You Need:
2 Lbs. chicken wings
2 tablespoons butter
1/4 cup prepared yellow mustard
3 tablespoons honey
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
1/4 – 1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper
1 teaspoon hot sauce (i.e. Tabasco)

Make It Happen:
Cook chicken wings as desired. (Oven, grill, frier.) Prepare sauce while wings are cooking.
Melt butter in pan over medium heat. Whisk in mustard, honey, salt, garlic powder, ¼ teaspoon cayenne pepper and hot sauce. Mix well and bring to a boil, then simmer over low until wings are done. Add remaining cayenne for more spice.
Toss wings in sauce and serve.

 

16.) Garlic Parmesan

What You Need:
2 Lbs. chicken wings
1/2 cup butter, melted
1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
1 teaspoon garlic powder
1/2 teaspoon onion salt
1/4 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper

Cook chicken wings as desired. (Oven, grill, frier.)
Mix butter, Parmesan cheese, garlic power, onion salt, and black pepper together in a bowl.

1 tablespoon grated lime zest
1 clove garlic, minced
1/4 teaspoon salt

2 teaspoons ground cumin
Kosher salt

Make It Happen:
Whisk together garlic, peanut butter, lemon juice, Aleppo pepper or crushed red pepper flakes, cumin and ½ cup warm water. Season with salt.
Toss chicken wings with ½ cup of the sauce. Cover and chill at least 2 hours, at most overnight.
When ready to cook, bake wings on wire rack over a sheet pan in oven 20 minutes at 350º F, then flip and bake additional 20 minutes. You can then broil 3-5 minutes. Serve with remaining sauce. Garnish with chopped parsley and Aleppo pepper or crushed red pepper flakes.

What You Need:
2 Lbs. chicken wings
6 slices bacon, cut into 1/2-inch pieces
4 cloves garlic, minced
1/2 cup ketchup
1/2 cup maple syrup
1/4 cup applesauce
2 tablespoons soy sauce
1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar
1 tablespoon brown sugar
Kosher or sea salt, to taste
Fresh cracked black pepper, to taste

Make It Happen:
Cook chicken wings as desired. (Oven, grill, frier.)
Cook bacon until nearly crisp. Add garlic and sautée 1-2 minutes over medium heat. Whisk in ketchup, maple syrup, applesauce, soy sauce, apple cider vinegar, brown sugar. Reduce heat to low and simmer 1-2 minutes until thickened.
Toss cooked wings in sauce and serve warm.

 

20.) Inferno Wings


What You Need:
2 Lbs. chicken wings
4 tbsp. McCormick Gourmet Sriracha seasoning (or similar sriracha powder)
4 tbsp. brown sugar
2 tbsp. paprika
1 1/2 tbsp. kosher salt
16 oz. Kingsford® Original Smoked Hickory Barbecue Sauce
12 tbsp. habanero jelly (substitute ghost pepper jelly for a mind-blowing burn)

Make It Happen:
In medium bowl, combine sriracha seasoning, brown sugar, paprika, and salt. Season raw chicken wings with dry rub mix. Cook wings on grill or in oven. Prepare sauce while wings cook.
In a small saucepan mix barbecue sauce and habanero jelly. Stir to combine and let warm through over low-medium heat.
Toss wings in habanero barbecue sauce and serve.
